Oprah Winfrey and Rev. Ed Bacon of All Saints Episcopal Church in Pasadena, California caused quite a stir last week during Oprah's Living Your Best Life Week: Spirituality 101 episode where the good Rev. Bacon made a statement that was heard all around the world, "Being Gay is A Gift from God". Watch the clip...
This idea that homosexuality is a "blessing" of "gift" is not new to me. I have already come to terms with my sexuality and spirituality since I was 22. I have written poems about, talked about it to my friends, and written about in my various blogs, here, here and HERE! It does amaze me still, how "out of tune" people really are about who they are and who they want to be.
As always there is going to be some backlash from this, but what do you guys think?
IS BEING GAY A GIFT FROM GOD?

I am a gay man. I am loving, I am friendly, I am funny (at least, I think so), I am sensitive. Because I have felt pain, I can empathize with those who feel pain as well. I want the world to be a better place. I want to show my others brothers (gay men) in the struggle that it is okay to be gay, love God, love others and definitely love one's self.
I am gay. Yes, it is a gift from God.
Shawn... you would go and post about this... I remember watching this last week and having to rewind the DVR to hear it again because I had never heard this before from ANYONE!!!!
Oprah's reaction was sooooooo funny and candid, because you can tell that she was taken off guard.
Too often, as gay men (and women), we are solely defined by who we sleep with and over-sexualized. There aren't many times in our lives when all of our accomplishments are put in the spotlights. I believe that collectively, we are a creative, artistic, educated, trend-setting, inventive group of people. We are survivors.
That Oprah segment really made me think. Thanks for posting it and allowing me to talk to someone about it.
thx 4 posting this...
Being gay cannot and never will be a gift from God. Being gay is like having cancer... it eats you alive and unfortunately, I hate the fact homosexuality exist but Im caught in the matrix of it all.
Wow! I loved this video...It really put a new perspective on being "spritual".
;-)
poor anonymous. i hate to see it go down like that.

= RELIGION VS. FAITH
=
===========================================
Religion is making-up a god to fit your definitions and image.
Faith is listening to what God has already communicated, living according to God's standards and being transformed through His power.
The Oprah message is just another "religion" - a really nice man-made belief system having no bearing on God's teachings.
Jesus was the Prince of Peace and embodiment of God in flesh - able to feed thousands with nothing, heal the sick and bring the dead back to life. His message was simple; God is inviting you into His Kingdom. But people reject Him because they want religion "their way" instead of "God's Way"
Those people who have overcome their same-sex compulsion and restored their heterosexual nature, describe homosexuality as a compulsion, similiar to alcoholism or drug addiction. I would not consider that a DIVINE RIGHT and the Bible clearly puts it into the category of sin.
