When I saw this photo of MJ, it hit me with this powerful truth.
With all the controversy of the color of his skin, MJ dealt with something most of us deal with. Self Image, Self Esteem & Skin issues. From a teenager to this day, I have battled with acne & skin blemishes and my self esteem. For the most part, proactiv as worked wonders, but doesn't solve everything. MJ many times has talked about his acne and how his father and cousins would tease him for his skin, and this was when he was a huge megastar in the Jackson 5!
Imagine the feeling of getting on stage in front of millions of people and the spotlight is right on you for the world to see. It can be very damaging. I feel the same way every time I put on a camera to do a FIVEblackgUys video. I feel very insecure at times, but then I remember...
MY POWER IS MORE THEN SKIN!
My creativity and ability to show my personality is more then a pimple or a blemish.
I shouldn't let that stop me right?
If MJ can become the biggest entertainer known to man
with all his flaws, then maybe I can be more to.
DO YOUR SKIN BLEMISHES
HOLD YOU BACK FROM BEING YOU?
or
DO YOU RELEASE YOUR POWER
FLAWS AND ALL?

I think we all have our issues but when they get in the way of us living our lives then it's a problem.
India.Arie released a song not too long ago titled "I am not my hair". If you switch out the word HAIR for the word SKIN you'd have "I am not my skin". That would speak not only to the complexion of your skin but any flaws there in.
Sure we all aspire to be perfect, but I'm sure we all know there was only 1 perfect person to ever walk the face of this Earth, and that was Jesus himself.
When we happen upon acne or other blemishes, we shouldn't let that hold us back. We have all the power inside to make others see past that blemish.
I too suffered from acne as a teenager, but ironically, I never let it get in my way. I did me, and I suggest anyone else with any type of flaw in their skin do the same.
This touches me on several levels that even go beyond my own personal experience.
@ Cocoa Thanks I agree! One Monkey Pimple don't stop the show! LOL
@ Acoustic Thanks for being so honest, really helps me as well.
so glad somebody addressed this man! who woulda thought that this chocolate/dark brown kid from the midwest would arrive and conquer the world of entertainment. he set the benchmark for everyone who comes after him and no one has come close so far! he hit the stage in hollyweird when they only wanted lighter skin black folks in front of cameras. and only those who looked damn near completely caucasian at that. so much to say on this one man.
